Target audience questionnaire

Questionnaire analysis
From the questionnaire I conducted I was able to identify important statistics and answers such as what these individuals would like to see included in the short film, their opinions and views on the subject matter etc. It is important to understand what type of people would be interested in viewing the production so that the information and viewings are tailored and suit their needs and wants.
Asking questions such as “Would you be interested in viewing my short film?” and “In your opinion, do you think you would recognise signs and symptoms of an individual who possessed a Mental illness such as Depression?” are significant in identifying the target audience and whether these people would actually want to watch the production. I gathered positive feedback from the questionnaire. 11 people filled out all the available answers and provided me with the evidence that all these individuals would be interested in watching the short film.

Question 4 and 5 are also able to provide me with the evidence that these individuals have some sort of knowledge about Mental illness as many of these were able to identify that they know of various Mental diagnoses.

Media proposal

Media proposal

My chosen short film idea is on Mental illness.

I have chosen this idea for many reasons such as the viability, budget, the significant impact on the audience and informative material it includes.

Content outline
I will base the film on a remake of a true story although this will include accurate statistics and facts of Mental illness. Unlike Physical illnesses, the impact on a human mentally can sometimes almost be invisible to others around them. Many people don’t recognise the signs of depression and other illnesses which is crucial to investigate and solve. Mental illness is not spoken about enough and is rarely treated or taken notice of. Mental illness can affect anyone; age, gender, sexuality, ethnic background, cultures, all of these factors do not make a difference when it comes to developing a Mental illness. Anyone can possess an illness which is why it is so important to inform the audience of these and understanding how they can help and support either themselves or another individual.

Target audience
The target audience are people who are interested in the subject however it is also aimed at individuals who are affected by Mental illnesses whether they are the victim or a bystander. I have chosen this as my focused audience as it will inform and could potentially gain people in need the help and support they need.

The impact that my short film has on the audience is important as I want them to be shocked and interested in the content. I want the audience to recognise how serious the issue is. Mental illness can go unrecognised or untreated which can increase the danger and effect of these. Mental illnesses can not only be dangerous to the owner but for individuals around them. Identifying signs and symptoms of Mental illness and drawing attention to this is essential which is why I want to educate the audience of these factors.

Resources
The resources that I will require are:

  • Camera
  • Tripod
  • Props
  • Editing software
  • Hardware

Personnel requirements
The requirements for personnel are:

  • Crew
  • Talent
  • Specialists

Viability
The production is financially viable as the location of the short film will take place locally in Banstead. I possess the correct skills that are necessary to undertake the process of creating the short film such as camera operating, organising crew and talent and directing. I have access to required equipment such as Cameras, Tripods, Sound, Lighting and editing software. This will effectively improve the budget of my short film as it means that I do not have to buy or hire out equipment to use.

If I require help and support from others I can access this from either classmates or media teachers and advisers. I know many individuals who work in the media industry and use technology and software on a daily basis that will be able to aid me if needed. I do have enough time to create my production as I will begin planning the construction of this and ensure that time is being used wisely.

The budget
The budget will not be a particular area of interest as I have all the equipment that is needed in order to create the production. Props in the production will be personally funded if they are required.

Project schedule
The production will commence filming on the 30th April and will finish on 2nd May. The filming will take a few days so that we ensure that everything that is required has been filmed and is ready to be edited. The filming will take around 3-4 hours daily, depending on the weather and circumstances of the availability of personnel and resources.
